Symptoms and signs of an Ectopic Pregnancy

Symptoms of an Ectopic Pregnancy

An ectopic pregnancy is an irregular pregnancy, whereby the newly fertilized egg inserts itself outside of the uterus. More often than not this takes place in the fallopian tubes, and this is the reason why an ectopic pregnancy is referred to as a tubal pregnancy. There will not be sufficient space for the baby to develop, and also there will not be adequate nurturing tissue to sustain and bring into being a healthy baby. It is a sad fact that all ectopic pregnancies will have to be terminated. If an ectopic pregnancy occurs undetected, then it can result in severe damage and even death. It is strongly advised that as soon as you discover that you are pregnant that you make an appointment to see your doctor to confirm that you have a healthy pregnancy. Coming to terms with an ectopic pregnancy will be very difficult; however you will be able to try for a baby at a later date.

What are the Symptoms of an Ectopic Pregnancy?

It is very easy to confuse this type of pregnancy with that of a normal pregnancy. You will have the same feelings as that of a normal pregnancy including nausea, sickness, sore breasts, missed period and frequent need to use the loo. The main clue is that you would feel pain in your lower abdomen or even in your lower back. It is also common to have some vaginal bleeding. This in turn would lower your blood pressure, and immediate medical attention should be sort. The doctor upon examination will establish if you are having an ectopic pregnancy. If the results of the examination indicate that your pregnancy is ectopic then you will be referred to the hospital. They will keep a close eye on your HCG levels and also give you an ultrasound scan, and it may even require you to undergo surgery to terminate the pregnancy.

Coping with the Loss of a Pregnancy.

Having experienced the loss of a pregnancy, you will very likely feel that your whole world has ended. Whether the cause is down to a miscarriage, abortion or an ectopic pregnancy it is only time that will heal your pains. The recommendation is to wait for a minimum of three full menstrual cycles before you try for another baby. It is important that you are assured that the cause of the ectopic pregnancy is not your fault; there is nothing you could have done to have prevented it.
